چکیده

Background: Active surveillance (AS) has become an alternative treatment approach for papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC). The purpose of this study is to uncover the clinicopathological factors associated with high-risk nodal disease in order select proper candidates AS PTMC.

Predicting Extrathyroidal Extension in Patients With Papillary Thyroid Microcarcinoma According to a BRAF Mutation

OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between preoperative parameters and extrathyroidal extension (ETE) of papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC) according to the BRAF mutation and to evaluate the preoperative predictability of ETE. METHODS We analyzed the medical records of 332 patients with PTMC (140 in the BRAF- group and 192 in the BRAF+ group). The presence o...

A new paradigm in low-risk papillary microcarcinoma: active surveillance

Classical papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC) is a variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) known to have excellent prognosis. It has a mortality of 0.3%, even in the presence of distance metastasis. The latest American Thyroid Association guidelines state that although lobectomy is acceptable, active surveillance can be considered in the appropriate setting. We present the case of a 37...

Risk factors for central lymph node metastasis in patients with papillary thyroid microcarcinoma: a meta-analysis

Objectives: To perform a meta-analysis to demonstrate the predictive factors for central lymph node metastasis (CLNM) in papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC) patients. Methods: Published articles about PTMC were searched in PubMed, EMBASE, and MEDLINE until March 2016 to detect the risk factors of CLNM. RevMan 5.0 software was used for the meta-analysis. Results: Fourteen articles met the in...

Prognostic impact of minimal extrathyroidal extension in papillary thyroid carcinoma

BACKGROUND It is widely accepted that maximal extrathyroidal extension (ETE) plays a vital role in the prognosis of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). However, there is no consensus among researchers about the meaning of minimal ETE (mETE) in PTC. Herein, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to examine the role of mETE in the prognosis of PTC. METHODS We searched PubMed, EMBASE,...

Contrastive study of two screening criteria for active surveillance in patients with low-risk papillary thyroid microcarcinoma: a retrospective analysis of 1001 patients

Screening out patients who do not require immediate surgery is a growing trend in the field of thyroid research. In this study, we retrospectively compared the application of two surveillance selection criteria in 1001 patients who had undergone surgical treatment of papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC): low-risk PTMC characteristics defined by Kuma Hospital and CATO consensus on PTMC manage...
